Hi Bridget, thanks for the comment.

Are you referring to the MySQL user? If you're using MAMP, you should have phpMyAdmin installed locally. If you take a look under the privileges tab you should be able to add new users there.

Does that help at all?

Wow!!! Great post (I will tweet this one around),

Im installing a whole new web development environment. For me its a complete change from one laptop to another. My new laptop coming with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

As a web designer I use MAMP and WordPress (Amongst other things). I have around 100 sites locally on my system. I attempted to migrate them all to the new system and managed to nearly get it all.

I followed the instructions from this post on Mac OS X Snow Leopard: Install Local WordPress using MAMP which details the installation perfectly.

The main problem I am not overcoming is the unique username per WordPress installation which would then mirror my clients installs. It seems only possible to reuse the root user for the PHP (WordPress) to connect.

If you find a solution please let me know as this one has got me stumped.

Best wishes and great blogging,
Bridget

Great, easy, step by step tutorial. Saved me some time! You might also want to mention turning off web sharing in prefs... this messed me up and caused 403 errors.
